Force10 Networks Increases Deployment Flexibility and Investment Protection of C-Series Switches with FlexMedia Line Card

FlexMediaForce10 Networks® has increased the deployment flexibility of its C-Series family of resilient switches with the new FlexMediaTM line card that combines copper and fiber Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with 10 Gigabit Ethernet to help optimize the network to meet unique traffic and application needs. As traffic demands change, the Force10 FlexMedia line card allows you to cost effectively transition to higher speeds while protecting existing investments.

The FlexMedia line card supports 36 10/100/1000BaseT ports, eight Gigabit Ethernet ports with SFP modules and two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports with SFP+ modules. Leveraging all line card slots, network operators can deploy the C-Series with as few as 36 line-rate Gigabit Ethernet ports and as many as 384. As the network transitions to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, the system can deploy anywhere from two to 64 Ten Gigabit Ethernet ports without purchasing a new line card.

Force10 Networks Anchors the World’s Most Powerful Supercomputer and More than 30 Percent of the Fastest 40

Top500.orgForce10 Networks is integral to more than 30 percent of the top 40 most powerful supercomputers in the world, including the most powerful, according to the most recent Top500.org list. Los Alamos National Laboratory, home of Roadrunner, which ranked number one on the list, utilizes the Force10 TeraScale E-Series family of switch/routers to anchor the supercomputer within the network.

In addition to powering the fastest supercomputer in the U.S., the Force10 Reliable Networking product portfolio is integral to the leading supercomputers in Europe, Russia and Korea. Based in Germany, Forschungszentrum Juelich, with its Jugene supercomputer, is ranked 6th on the list and has deployed the Force10 TeraScale E1200 with more than 200 Ten Gigabit Ethernet ports. Russia’s Moscow State University is home to the country’s leading supercomputer, SKIF-GRID, which utilizes the Force10 C300 resilient switch as well as the S50 and S2410. The Tachyon supercomputer at the KISTI Supercomputing Center, the fastest in Korea, also relies on Force10.

Techworld Names Force10 Networks C300 Resilient Switch Networking Product of the YearTechworld Names Force10 Networks C300 Resilient Switch Networking Product of the Year

Force10 Networks® recently announced that Techworld named the C300 resilient switch the Networking Product of the Year based on its unique scalability, reliability and network control features. Selected by an independent panel of judges comprised of industry thought leaders and the Techworld editorial board, the award recognizes innovations that have positively impacted the IT industry as well as the daily roles of IT professionals.

The Force10 C300 incorporates the patented technology that was developed to ensure predictable performance in large enterprise-class data centers. The passive copper backplane of the C300 features patented design techniques that eliminate it as a single point of failure. Additionally, the passive nature of the backplane reduces system-level power consumption. With a non-blocking switch fabric, the C300 delivers scalable performance regardless of traffic conditions.

Force10 P-Series 10GbE Line Rate Stateful Security Appliance Enhances Network Visibility with Advanced Counters

P-Series

The Force10 P-Series, the first deep packet inspection appliance to deliver comprehensive network security at full line-rate 10Gb/s, has implemented a number of counters that give operators far more visibility into the network. The policies and counters on the P-Series are implemented directly into flexible hardware with the patented Dynamic Parallel Inspection (DPI) architecture, which enables the Force10 P-Series to deliver continuous line-rate performance as more features and policies are added. The P-Series offer a unique Layer-1 application platform that is invisible to Layer-2+, preserving network topologies and allowing extreme flexibility in deployment.

The new counters on the P-Series deliver the following benefits:

  • Per-VLAN counters enable statistics for each VLAN flowing through the P-Series device
  • Zone hit counters keeps statistics on 64 different zones which accelerate heuristic engines
  • Rule-hit counters give hit-counts for each policy implemented, allowing granular visibility into how policies interact with the traffic over the wire
  • IP/Network-based counters provide the ability to maintain statistics on IP/Network-Zones, enabling operators to use the unit for heuristic or billing applications even with full 10GbE wirespeed traffic
  • The new Packet Capture Stamping feature gives the corresponding rule that resulted in the match with the packet
  • WAN PHY support has been added, allowing the P-Series to operate in both LAN PHY and WAN PHY mode as well as enabling WAN PHY to LAN PHY mode for out-of-line deployments

These new features accelerate existing applications or custom applications built on the P-Series hardened Open source operating system which provides standard/open interfaces.
